“True, you ride the finest horse…”
I found a white moth spinning on the kitchen floor the other day. It was upsidedown, spinning, performing backstroke. Young Belle the cat was just starting to show interest so I rescued the creature. I wasn’t sure at first about touching it although it was quite an elegant beast. I [...]

A million years ago ,well two weeks anyway, on a rare sunny day this winter, we went to The Dandenongs for a walk and a picnic with friends.
We met a few cheeky Sulphur Crested Cockatoos on our travels, hence the photo above. Just look at those beaks…I really think care should be exercised if you [...]

I have been awarded a Tree of Happiness by my blog buddy lavenderbay from Voice of the Turtle.
So what makes me happy?
This does. Can you see her?
Well, I know this is a poor old photo technically but looking at it makes me happy. It was taken up a little unmarked track in The Wombat [...]

Well, today I was doing the dishes. Looking out the window. A good time to let the mind wander around. It’s no use fighting the job and feeling annoyed at the time it takes. We do have a dishwasher and I don’t use it. So how can I complain?
There is a rose outside my [...]

Well, finally it is time to go to Yackandandah or Yack as the locals call it. I said I would go there earlier but the truth is that as soon as I did an incredible period of blog block descended. I have no idea why although I dreamt about Beechworth the other day ( [...]

Yesterday I posted about the little garden next to this building. What is this place? That is the question I send out to all who spend a little time looking around with me.
This section of the property opens onto the grassy verge and it seems to have delivered or taken in deliveries. I [...]

Grassy, glassy water
Christmas in Melbourne can feel all rush, glare and glitter, sometimes bad tempered glitter at that. People are encouraged to go out and stress over presents, food and baubles for the table. Spend, spend, spend. Hustle, push and hurry. Urk.
Sometimes I just have to go to a quiet place. We went for [...]

Today, as the weekend beckons, I am going to show you some indignant cows I met when I was trying to photograph another old farmhouse in the Victorian countryside.
When I saw these cows they were in an endearing pose looking through the window of this abandoned house. Great, I thought. What a lovely photograph that [...]

Tiny Christmas trees planted around a pair of windy gums near Meredith in Victoria
It’s coming. December is here and Christmas is about to land. Today’s post is a bit like a scratch dinner. What is in the cupboard today. Hmm, an obsession with trees, heights and the cat attacking my snails.
The little dark [...]

Let me take you to my dream house. Look here is the gate to the front garden.
Gates draw my eye particularly the disused, broken, rustily locked or incongruous.
Someone has done their best to stop anyone from entering.
Here is the cottage slowly disappearing into the rampant garden. What an archive of plants. Someone’s pride and joy? [...]
