Interesting combination – a latte in the prison reception building
On Sunday we went to see how historic Pentridge Prison (circa 1851 ) was holding up in the good suburb of Coburg. This site was part of Jeff Kennett’s effort to sell the government assets of the State of Victoria while he [...]

Well, finally it is time to go to Yackandandah or Yack as the locals call it. I said I would go there earlier but the truth is that as soon as I did an incredible period of blog block descended. I have no idea why although I dreamt about Beechworth the other day ( [...]

The Old Magistrates Court in Melbourne
This is a stunning building. Look at the detail. It is apparently Norman / French Romanesque in style. A grand style for the grand purpose of implementing the law.
I love these owls.
Well, I assume they are owls.
This ornate court was built on the site of the original Supreme Court of [...]

Ned Kelly walked through this gate to his execution by hanging on the 11th of November 1880. Things have changed and as you can see he would be walking somewhat through air to reach the gate if the architecture stood then as it does today. This gate is set in the thick wall of [...]

Let me take you to my dream house. Look here is the gate to the front garden.

Someone has done their best to stop anyone from entering.
Here is the cottage slowly disappearing into the rampant garden. What an archive of plants. Someone’s pride and joy? [...]

The grand old lady of Flinders St was slumbering peacefully late one Monday night when I was going home. She is a heritage listed train station sitting on the banks of the Yarra River in her current finery since building finished in 1910. Can you believe there were plans to demolish this grand building [...]

This partially completed church sits in a paddock in Greendale Victoria.
I took photographs of the building on two different visits so the first image
is quite moody but the others are full of sunlight and lush greenery. It is
true, Greendale is green.
The area of Greendale had a population surge after 1855 when gold was
discovered in nearby [...]

The corner door.
This is the main doorway to The Cosmopolitan hotel in Trentham. Tragically,The Cosmopolitan was gutted by fire on the 26th of June 2005. According to The Age the fire started in the laundry of the building (caused possibly by lint in a dryer) and the inhabitants had two minutes to evacuate [...]
