I could be accused of being ‘off with the fairies’ sometimes. Particularly today, when I am procrastinating rather than doing my work and sitting inside rather than walking in the sun. It is a lovely day out there. Early spring sunshine but still a little chilly.
On the weekend we visited the Fitzroy Gardens. It was [...]

A million years ago ,well two weeks anyway, on a rare sunny day this winter, we went to The Dandenongs for a walk and a picnic with friends.
We met a few cheeky Sulphur Crested Cockatoos on our travels, hence the photo above. Just look at those beaks…I really think care should be exercised if you [...]

I finally got around to visiting The Coburg Cemetery approximately 15kms from the centre of Melbourne. I wanted to go because I find cemeteries fascinating. They are a vital record -historic, botanic and artistic. I rarely feel maudlin when I walk around them and I think in some way a visit is appreciated by such [...]

Well, finally it is time to go to Yackandandah or Yack as the locals call it. I said I would go there earlier but the truth is that as soon as I did an incredible period of blog block descended. I have no idea why although I dreamt about Beechworth the other day ( [...]

I have been spending a fair bit of time recently with a very dear elderly lady. She is ninety plus years young and full of energy. I could sit and listen to her all day. Such a warm human being full of wisdom and memory.
This is the lemon tree she planted with her husband [...]

Gravestone reads: In loving memory of Catherine McQuade native
of co Monaghan, Ireland who died 27th November 1877. Aged 64 Years.
Recently, I spied, what looked from a distance, to be a lone gravestone in a beautifully maintained park. Sometimes I just like to bumble around until something takes my eye and like many of us cemeteries [...]

Happy New Year!
I had a whole other post planned but I ran into a Chinese lion dance in Victoria St Richmond in inner Melbourne today and I just had to post the photos as it is the first day of the Chinese New Year. The year of the Rat.
The lion is a guardian animal in Chinese tradition. The [...]

Things have conspired to keep me away from my little blog for the last few days.
Let’s start in mid-sentence…well, I have been off working out the logistics of the Christmas move. The christmas move, what Christmas move? The Christmas move that is happening right now and all in the name of not making any [...]

The Old Magistrates Court in Melbourne
This is a stunning building. Look at the detail. It is apparently Norman / French Romanesque in style. A grand style for the grand purpose of implementing the law.
I love these owls.
Well, I assume they are owls.
This ornate court was built on the site of the original Supreme Court of [...]

I have always been curious about what people discover when they are renovating or digging around in their garden. Sometimes it is a sack of money, sometimes an old coin worth less than the day it was minted. More often than not it is a few old fragments of plate buried where you want [...]
